Pay attention and be aware
Both Rubin-Sprague and Pronchick agree that the best medicine is to simply be present. “When we get stressed, we tend to react,” Rubin-Sprague says. “Planning flies out the window. But clarity is crucial. When you’re present, you plan, and you see what’s coming down the road.”
Breathe
But meditation teaches that mind follows the breath. The breath naturally slows as we get calmer, and our minds calm as well. Just a couple of minutes of sitting or walking while breathing deeply can be beneficial.
