Do You Feel Antsy When You Slow Down?

I’m preparing to take a few vacation days and I always notice a bit of anxiety as I’m recording my “out of office message” on my email and voice mail.

Since I work from home, I don’t really relax unless I get out of the house.  I’m so much better than I used to be, when I worked seven days a week and never took time off.  Good grief – when I was a professional photographer I eventually learned that Fridays were very quiet days and I could take off and be rested to work on Saturday – and then it didn’t take me three days to recover!

Do you work beyond the point of exhaustion?  Do you keep saying “I need to get some rest”?  How long has it been since you had a real vacation?

As we move into the warmer months, I encourage you to pull out your calendar right now – come on – and schedule at least a few days off.  And I do mean true days away – no taking work with you, no checking email, no “Oh, I’ll just check my voice mail to see if anyone needs me.”

The way I finally learned to take time off and rest was to schedule a retreat every September where I went to the woods with a bunch of wonderful women friends.  We sang, danced, practiced yoga, meditated and sat next to the river and gazed up into the huge redwood trees.  The first couple of years it was the second day of the retreat before I burst into tears and really landed in my body – I was so wound up and exhausted.  I really didn’t realize how out of alignment I was – until I let myself relax and just be.

Those retreats were my inspiration to begin to offer retreats as part of my business once I became a coach and yoga instructor.  They taught me how to unplug from business and working my butt off and get back in touch with my spirit, my soul and my true self.

Join me in Napa on Saturday, June 25th for a lovely day of yoga, meditation and meridian tapping with my inspiring teacher Zoe Walton, who will be joining us to share her expertise on integrating tapping into your daily spiritual practice.
