What’s Bugging You?

DSC02389 (2) Every month when I sit down to write my newsletter article, I wonder what’s bugging you and causing you stress, my beloved loyal readers, and how I can offer information and encouragement that will be of benefit to you. Honestly, I also think about the S.F. Chronicle column written by Jon Carroll. I read his column every day and love his quirky, honest, sometimes cranky and always humorous writing (especially when he writes about his cats!) and I aspire to be inspired to write as well as he does. From my heart to yours – here’s what came to me. I’d really love to hear what’s bugging you!

Hay Fever Bugs Me

What bugs me is that just when the weather gets gorgeous and warmer in the Napa Valley, I start getting hay fever. I’ve got a wild notion about avoiding decongestants and anti-histamins, so I’m using the neti pot to flush out my sinuses with salt water every day and seeing the acupuncturist for allergy clearing treatments. Eating lots of alkaline foods like leafy greens, avocados, nuts, and lemon juice to boost my immune system and drinking ginger tea.

Still experiencing the congestion, headaches, itchy eyes, sneezing and most annoying – achy joints. Taking a shower washes off the pollen – definitely before bed so the nasty pollens can’t do their thing on me all night long! I’ve found Silimason homeopathic eye relief drops helpful for the itchy eyes too.

And I’m curious about where the phrase “that bugs me” comes from – so I tried to looked it up and didn’t get anywhere. Maybe Jon Carroll can help me or Andy Rooney on 60 Minutes. It bugs me that schools are closing, teachers salaries are being cut and our leaders can’t seem to agree on anything for the good of the people. Arrrrgh…

I love walking and gardening so much I can’t resist being outside. I’m so proud and delighted that I got out last fall and planted a ton of bulbs in my planter box and patio pots. I loved every minute of the daffodils blooming through February and March. Now the roses have buds, the iris are blooming and the forget-me-nots are singing and dancing. See what I mean? Mother Nature is irresistable, especially after all of the rain we had this winter.

And The Good News

And there’s good stuff too – health care reform got passed. The beautiful and talented Kelly Fuller sang last week at Silo’s with the amazing Mike Greensill at the piano. We thoroughly enjoyed “Man of LaMancha” at the Napa Valley college – well sung, lively and poignant.

The new Mini Mango Thai place on Clinton street got approval for their outdoor tables. Yay! The Uptown Theater is finally opening in May after 10 years of rennovations and most of the concert tickets are a reasonable $37. The very best time in the world is a ride on the Vallejo Ferry into the City to the Ferry building to visit the Museum of Modern art or attend a play at American Conservatory Theater.

There’s a new Full Circle healing center on Third Street in downtown Napa and I’m offering a Meditation practice group there every Tuesday from 6 – 7 p.m. for $10. The more I meditate, the less I get bugged by stuff. Join us and see how it calms down what’s bugging you too.

With love & blessings, Becca
