Certainly you’ve noticed the heated debate swirling about healthcare reform. I have great admiration and respect for Senator Mike Thompson, congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and President Barack Obama as they stand tall amidst the highly charged conversation.
How would this conversation shift if our focus was on clarity, kindness and wisdom to provide the best information and services to all of our citizens? I give thanks every day that my husband and I have the option to see our Kaiser physician, even though I more often consult my acupuncturist, massage therapist and personal trainer.
Would we be dancing in the streets if we had the option of a program that at least partially paid for information and services to keep us fit and healthy as well as support when we require surgery or hospital care? I know I would. When I worked in the corporate world (many moons ago), my employer switched from offering so many sick days to offering personal time off for doctor and dentist appointments, illness or vacation, whatever we needed to stay healthy and productive at work. I clearly remember we all felt so grateful and grown up about taking responsiblity for our lives instead of feeling as if we needed a note from our mother to take a day off!
May we all stay open to solutions that benefit our communities. May our leaders have the strength and persistence to come to mutually beneficial agreements. May we put more energy into staying active and healthy, caring for one another with patience and compassion, than arguing about who is responsible.
Please share your thoughts on this topic and take good care of yourselves as we shift gently from summer into fall, practicing patience and willingness to change. Ahhhh…
With love & blessings, Becca
